Accountability, transparency, ctd.

Apparently, Chuck from Vi Daley's office informed someone today that there was no intention of actually releasing the "feel of the community" votes that they intend to take at the block meetings.

Why? Afraid of the results???

Keep cc'ing letters to vocalneighbors@hotmail.com, or to 6 W Hubbard Street, Suite 500, Chicago, 60610. We'll be happy to keep the running tally and keep it public.

Maybe Vi's office doesn't want to release the results because they fear blocks would be targeted by people like you. Maybe they have some other reason. Who knows? What's clear is that the status quo of teardowns left and right, ridiculously large houses with no regard to how they fit in on the block, and developers building off a second set of drawings (2100 block of Clifton) so the building is over height has got to stop. If the only two choices are a) build whatever you want, or b) landmarking, I choose landmarking by a wide margin.

With regard to builders gone wide,

All buildings must conform to building codes. All variances from building codes must be approved by the Alderman.

If a building does not meet code, it is because the Alderman has made this happen.

Therefore, landmarking is not the answer. It is stopping the Alderman from approving various which are inconsistent with the neigborhood.
